Knowledge Based Verification

Use a personalised quiz to verify your user!

Authenticate® employs an advanced identity verification system that enhances security while offering a convenient process for users. This system utilizes knowledge-based authentication (KBA) to create personalized quizzes based on user-provided information such as Full Legal Name, date of birth, and Social Security Number.

Core Verification Method

Authenticate's verification process is strengthened by the Identity Proof Quiz, which uses knowledge-based authentication to generate personalized questions. These questions are derived from the user's historical and publicly accessible data, such as previous residential addresses, names of relatives. etc. The quiz is designed to be so specific that only the user or someone very close to them, like a spouse or a sibling, could answer correctly.

Quiz Interaction

Users interact with the Identity Proof Quiz by answering multiple-choice questions that assess their authenticity. This system ensures that the questions are directly relevant to the individual by accessing public records for accuracy.

In rare cases, initial verification attempts are unsuccessful due to incomplete or incorrect information (e.g., date of birth or components of the full legal name). Our systems will then highlight what additional details are needed. Users can then update their information and attempt the verification process again.

Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA) Generation Failures

Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA) is a cornerstone of identity verification within Authenticate®. However, you may occasionally encounter situations where a KBA cannot be generated. Such instances are uncommon and can be attributed to specific scenarios detailed below. This article guides you on proceeding if a KBA generation fails and offers alternative verification methods.

Reasons for KBA Generation Failures

  1. Insufficient Quiz Questions Available
    • Issue Description: Sometimes, our system cannot gather enough information to formulate a quiz for a particular user because they do not have enough history. This is usually when the user is young and doesn’t have enough information (such as credit card history, when a person is 18 years old) available digitally
    • Suggested Action: Attempt to verify the user with other available methods. For further guidance, refer to our Knowledge Base.
  2. Lack of Digital Footprint/Identity Not Found
    • Issue Description: A KBA cannot be generated when uncertainty regarding the user's true identity exists due to the lack of a digital footprint. This usually occurs when very little to no information regarding the user’s identity is publicly available.
    • Suggested Action: Update the user object with correct information or add a Social Security Number (SSN) for improved results. If the generation fails again, then we suggest trying another alternative to verification
  3. Multiple Records Found
    • Issue Description: There might be many individuals with similar PII (like First Name, City, etc.), sometimes the systems fail to identify the correct individual for the generation of the quiz
    • Suggested Action: Ensure that the information provided is accurate. Consider updating the PII or adding an SSN for enhanced clarity and better results.

By integrating these personalized quizzes with advanced algorithms and liveness checks, Authenticate® provides robust security measures for organizations, safeguarding against fraudulent activities and bolstering user trust.

This knowledge-based approach secures the identity verification process while ensuring user-friendliness and efficiency, supporting a wide range of security needs for modern organizations.
